City of London Moves to Deepen Commerce with Lagos

Furtherance to the investment drive of the Lagos State Government, the City of London has pledge its support for deepening commercial interaction with Lagos State.

This was contained in a statement made by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Mr. Alderman Alan Yarrow when he led a delegation of senior business representatives from the United Kingdom’s financial and professional services sector on a courtesy call on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode midweek in His office.

Mr. Yarrow said that the City of London was encouraged by the ongoing investment drive of the Lagos State Government to build engagement with the government and explore ways of working more closely on issues of mutual commercial benefits.

While promoting the United Kingdom as the natural partner of choice in financial and professional services, the Lord Mayor of London noted that the City of London managed over 9trilllion dollars investment and was the largest international commercial centre which introduced the Public Private Partnership (PPP) to the world.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule assured the investors from London of the ease of doing business in Lagos State, stressing that Lagos was the most secure state in the country with adequate laws to protect investments.

According to the Lagos State Governor: “in addition, we have created the Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment, directly under the Governor’s Office to assist investors in taking advantage of the diverse investment opportunities in the state”

The Governor who listed the priority areas of his Administration as transportation, power, health, infrastructure development and housing, urged investors to take advantage of the investment opportunities in these areas as investment held the key to achieving the goals of his Administration, including job creation and infrastructure development.
